Friday, 8 June 2018: Raisin scones drop-off
I worked from home last Friday to skip the long commute in to the office, and mum popped in with a homemade treat – raisin scones, fresh out the oven. So yum!
Saturday, 9 June 2018: Reading on couches with dogs
We breakfasted at our local Lacomia’s Cafe in Builder’s Warehouse of Saturday morning, as Husband had all sorts of odds and ends to purchase and tick off on his DIY list. See my cafe mocha and toasted chicken mayo, as well as Husband’s cappuccino, his cola in the background and his sloppy joe eggy mince on toast.
I spent most of my Saturday afternoon reading on the couch with the doggies. You can just see Bassie, popping up behind my legs. They’re such sweet snuggle buddies.
Mmm, soup! We were both feeling quite under the weather that evening so soup with rolls in front of a roaring fire seemed the best idea for dins. It was.
Sunday, 10 June 2018: Reload dog park breakfast, Limnos treat
We had Sunday breakfast at Reload at the Leadville dog park in Sunningdale (our not-so-social doggies stayed at home, though). See my Mediterranean bagel topped with hummus, onions and avo, as well as my peppermint-choc latte and Husband’s ‘trim’ bacon and bockwurst open omelette.
The peppermint-choc latte is delicious and sweet enough that you don’t need to add any sugar.
Here is Husband, tentatively sipping on a triple cappuccino. We had initially sat outside to watch the doggies play in the park but the wind soon proved too gusty, especially given our compromised immune systems.

Then it was time for some weekend admin. When we saw Limnos had finally opened in the Table Bay Mall, of course we stopped in for a look and take-home treat. I went for a salambo eclair, which is just delicious – choux pastry with vanilla cream piped in through the base, and topped with syrupy almond slivers. Yum! See Bassie pretending not to watch me eat it in the last photo.
This is post-salambo, pre-coffee. Bassie was happy to snuggle with me on the couch while I convalesced with a new book.
Mum made a lovely trifle for Sunday lupper-dessert.

Tuesday, 12 June 2018: Monthly radio recording at 2OceansVibe
On Tuesday, my colleague Angie and I popped in at the 2OceansVibe recording studio in Cartel House, Loop Street for our second show. We stopped in for a post-show coffee and caught up on emails at Cafe du Cap downstairs.
We were careful not to ‘drop the mic. Lol.
Wednesday, 13 June 2018: Mid-week winter dins at Doodles
We stopped in for dins at Doodles on Wednesday to celebrate both finally feeling a bit better from this change-of-season cold. Husband had the winter bangers and mash special for R59, plus a glass of red to wash it down, I had the Wednesday burger and chips special (it’s another R59 meal, but I ordered a latte instead).
The cold front was due to hit the following day so watching the sun setting over the sea after dins seemed extra special as we’d be stuck indoors for the next few days.
Bertie was happy to snuggle with me again that eve in front of the fire.

Saturday, 24 March 2018: Extended family breakfast at On the Rocks, misty trip along Chapman’s Peak
Various non-Capetonian family members were visiting on Saturday so we met up for breakfast. Beautiful view of Table Mountain from On the Rocks, but the wind made it just a tad too chilly to eat outside.
Coffee and family, such a good way to start the weekend.
I had the French toast with berry coulis and ice cream; parents both had the Alaskan – scrambled eggs with salmon and mushrooms; Husband had the kassler breakfast. I even ate the strawberry slice once the rest of my plate was clean.
After a bit of weekend admin it was time to head to the other end of the Cape to see Husband’s family. It’s now R45 for a single car to travel along Chapman’s Peak drive, which we hadn’t done in ages so happily paid the price. We could just make out the sea from the scenery below.
You can just see the sea peeking through in the bottom right here. It was like something out of a horror movie!
The sea looked so inviting all along the coast, especially once it started raining gently. See various scenes of the resulting braai.
For dessert, braai cones! The marshamallow-chocolate-caramel filling melts on the fire – delicious.
There was still a chill in the air that eve so the doglets snuggled up on the couch.
Sunday, 25 March 2018: After-work dins at Moyo
Bassie had a sweet moment snuggling with her dad on Sunday morning, before he left for work.
Bertie was equally sweet, showing us various angles of his sleepy face.
Mmm, we had milktart as a treat that afternoon.
Sweet doggies again at their grandparents’ house that afternoon. So much love.
I just couldn’t get enough of the clouds this week! This was the view when we arrived at Eden on the Bay in Big Bay that evening, for dins at Moyo.
Teehee. I had a hazelnut latte and my face painted. Husband had a carafe of wine and we shared the pulled-lamb linguine, no pics as we had a ‘Lady and the Tramp’ fail. 😉
After dins the sky was still bright but the sun was leaving.

Monday, 26 March 2018: Dins at Burgundy Bossa
The weather was lovely when we got home from work on Monday, so we dined at Bossa in Burgundy Estate. See my creme brulee shake and monkeygland burger with sweet potato fries (burgers are just R59 on Mondays) – also see Husband’s draught beer and pizza. Yum.

Friday, 3 November 2017: Burgers and monster shakes at FUE
The Festive Underground Eatery or FUE is now open until 7pm and still offering their R199 special for two burgers with fries and a monster shake to share. That’s where we went after work last Friday, to get into the weekend feeling a little early.
These sure are monster shakes, at over 1l per jar! That’s Dad with the berry and me with the peanut butter-banana version.
Look at those shakes in their entirety – topped with a full waffle, donuts, marshmallows, popcorn and more, this definitely counts as dessert!
All were present and accounted for and full to the brim!
Saturday, 4 November 2017: Panama Jacks family lunch
On Saturday morning we breakfasted at McPherson’s. Husband went for an omelette while I had the club sandwich – both washed down with cappuccinos.
T’was time for another family meal that afternoon. Husband’s dad was in hospital recovering from a knee op so his mom joined us at Panama Jacks in the harbour with my parents. The restaurant is moving across to the other end of the Waterfront in a few weeks so it was nice to sit and reminisce over the meals we’ve enjoyed there over the years. Note the standard pose outside post-meal bottom right.
Some of the food we ate at Panama Jacks. That’s the lamb-black bean soup, the avo seafood, calamari with tartare sauce and Thai fish curry.
I went for the Milky Lane Choca Mocha Whizzer for my Saturday afternoon treat following quite a bit of weekend admin. In case the name isn’t obvious enough, that means the ice cream is swirled with coffee and chocolate mousse.
Sunday, 5 November 2017: Pink Olive breakfast and GrandWest movies
We sat down to breakfast at the Pink Olive at Starke Ayres and not five minutes later Mother and Spec were there too, per chance! Spec stayed over at Mother’s for the weekend.
Later that day we met Spec at GrandWest Casino on his way home to Fish Hoek, to watch the latest Thor movie. It was a bright, sunny day but the wind was cold and blustery.
Ha. This is what we do when we see a ‘push button’ photo booth at GrandWest Casino. I think we take this same photo every time we pass it!
Wednesday, 8 November 2017: Loveables pop-up store launch in Salt River
I attended the launch of the Loveables pop-up store in Salt River on Wednesday morning. This is what I saw outside…

Oh yes! I mentioned last week that I’d reveal the end result of the DIY project I’d worked on during my staycation. See below…
The chest of drawers I had painted in shades of grey a few years ago was in need of a revamp. So we sanded down the whole thing, then I painted the outer shell black with each drawer a darker shade of grey for an overall ‘ombre’ effect, then varnished it all to seal the deal.
The end product. As you can see, we went all out and added new crystal knobs to each drawer so it feels fully fancy.

Thursday, 28 September 2017: CuppaforCansa event at 12 Apostles Hotel, Damhuis Winter burger special dins
The 12 Apostles Hotel and Spa is a gorgeous venue. That’s where the Cuppa for Cansa high tea was held last Thursday. Look at those views of the sea, just a hop, skip and jump away!
Pink bubbly, pink macarons, red cappuccino, pink juice – all blended perfectly with the theme of ‘pink high tea’.
Just a sample of the pretty pink foodies. All tasted just as good as it looked!
We also had fun playing dress up for the photo booth – which then gave us physical print outs, which I then photographed.
When I got back to the office I had space for another cupcake – a homemade caramel-centred, purple glitter-topped one made by the recent birthday girl, Angie.
Thursday was a very busy day as it was also Bassie’s last vet check-up for the year. Happy with her progress on arthritis meds, she was given a special biscuit treat by the vet.
My parents had been to Damhuis in Melbos for their winter burger and beer special, and as it was the last night to taste the ‘Winter 2017’ version, we popped along, too…
All four of us had the special. R60 got you a huge beef burger topped with cooked brown onions, egg and cheese slice, with side portion of chips AND 300ml craft beer. Amazing.
Friday, 29 October 2017: Friday work things
Last Friday I wore my reporter hat and interviewed the lovely people at YoungGun Films in the AdMakers building. Look at the warm welcome I received! Lunch at Burrata in the Old Biscuit Mill followed. I had a cappuccino and the gnocchi with gorgonzola cream, broccolini, toasted walnuts and pancetta. A wonderful meal.
Saturday, 30 October 2017: Windy braai at brother Spec’s
We started our Saturday with breakfast at Reload. That’s my honey-nut latte, Husband’s Mexican open omelette, and my ‘super scrumptious’ buttermilk waffle topped with banana, nuts, chocolate syrup and caramel lumps.
The doggies soaked up a bit of sun inside as the wind was so chilly outdoors.
With brother Spec newly settled in Fish Hoek, it was time for the first official family braai at his location. This is all of us. The wind was icy so we moved indoors once the food was ready.
The food we ate. Salad and starter things top left, meat top right, charcoal nails matchy matchy with the braai coals and this week’s braai dessert. The cones are filled with chocolate, caramel and marshmallows that melt in the most satisfyingly gooey way 🙂
Sunday, 1 November 2017: Breakfast at W Cafe in Table Bay Mall
Table Bay Mall has officially opened, just 2.7km from home (as the crow flies). We popped into the W Cafe in Woolworths for breakfast. I had the Nutella French toast, Husband went for the salmon omelette.
My Nutella French toast in all its glory. If you look closely you can see the fine peanut brittle crumb on the bananas. Very yummy!
Mum whipped up a batch of apple pies when we popped in for lupper a little later in the day.
It had been an early lupper so we had our Sunday treat after dropping off the doggies at home again. These are our sunset drinks at News Cafe on Marine Circle – the Giggle Juice for Husband, and a salted caramel fudge freezo drink for me.

It was quite the week for visits to my office! See Graham Lang on the left, currently ranked the country’s sixth best chief creative officer, who brought me an exclusive interview opportunity, and Jana Leonard on the right, who left mini donuts and some exciting PR industry news.
