Bringing in St Patrick’s Day and Human Right’s Day 2018

Last weekend we celebrated St Patrick’s Day with my dad, as it’s his name day, and also had a mid-week day off in honour of Human Right’s Day – but still did lots of work in between…

Friday, 16 March 2018: BrandLove potent digital storytelling workshop

BrandLove storytelling
I spent my Friday attending the Brand Love ‘Potent digital storytelling’ workshop. It was intense, but I loved it! Coverage to follow on Bizcommunity soon…
BrandLove house
The Bothas’ BrandLove house/office space is lovely, and they made all the food we ate for lunch – even the bread was baked that morning!

Saturday, 17 March 2018: St Patrick’s Day drinks at Brazen Head, parents braai at ours

News Cafe early bird breakfast
We decided on a fast, filling breakfast as we had many tasks to get through on Saturday. so went for the News Cafe early bird. It did the trick.
Rocks and tides in Cape Town
Husband exploring the rocks and tide was very shallow that morning.
St Patrick's Day at the Brazen Head
We met my parents at the Brazen Head in Seaside Village for a St Patrick’s-themed drink when the clock struck noon. See various green/clear/black drinks, here.
Guinness for St Patrick's Day
Dad and Husband. Both in green, both with a Guinness.
Lamb braai
T’was our turn to host the Andrews’ family braai. Husband went with a lamb roast on the Weber, with smashed potatoes, roast veg and a S’mores type braai pudding. Yum!
dogs on couches
There were lots of happy ‘dog on couch’ moments.
Fish tank dining room
Sometimes our dining room looks like a sushi restaurant, what with the fish tank and shiny black table.

Sunday, 18 March 2018: Melkbos Kitchen breakfast and beach wander

Coffee at Melkbos Kitchen
We only set out for breakfast around 10am, and decided on the Melkbos Kitchen (formerly known as Ritzi’s). See my latte, as well as Husband and Brother-in-Law Spec’s cappuccinos.
Breakfast at Melkbos Kitchen
After a fair wait, our food arrived, and it was delicious. Husband went for the salmon benedict, Spec the ham, and me the apple-ginger flapjacks. Yum!
Melkbos beach walk
We went for a brisk walk along the Melkbos beachfront to work off some off those calories after breakfast.
Flapjacks and dog
Bassie was happy to sit with mommy and the reheated breakfast with yet another coffee, later that afternoon.
Insomniac shake at Saint's, Eden on the Bay
We stopped at Saint’s in Eden on the Bay for my favourite Insomniac shake for our Sunday afternoon treat. Husband had one, too.

Monday, 19 March 2018: Taking a break with Kit-kat

Monday Kit-kat
Monday. What. A. Day. Yes, note all the full stops. And then suddenly my sweet colleague dropped a Kit-kat on my desk and things looked a little brighter πŸ™‚

Tuesday, 20 March 2018: International Happiness Day

Happiness Course
Part of the reason for my manic Monday was that I was completing an online masterclass in ‘happiness‘ through 42Courses, ahead of International Happiness Day on Tuesday. Click here for my overview!

Wednesday, 21 March 2018: Human Rights Day

On the Rocks cappuccino
We slept in late on Wednesday as it was Human Rights Day in SA. See my much-needed cappuccino at On the Rocks, where we breakfasted.
On the Rocks breakfast
The rest of our breakfast – French toast with berry compote, kippers with scrambled eggs, and lots of mirrors and light. We sat inside as it was a tad windy.
Reading with coffee and dog
Later that morning I had some quiet time napping, reading and dunking cinnamon biscuits in coffee with sweet Bassie.
Cocktails at Jamaica Me Crazy
Later that afternoon, we headed off to Jamaica Me Crazy for an afternoon treat. I had the Muddy Monkey shake, which is a blended banana and brownie, while Husband had the honey-ginger-whisky ‘penicillin’.
Jamaica me crazy art
Loved the wall art, and we found a corner outside table that was semi-sheltered from the chilly wind.
Forries
Next stop, Forester’s Arms, AKA Forries. It looked particularly wintery that afternoon!
Burgers at Forries.
We shared the roast chilli poppers starter, the each had a burger – lamb for Husband, chicken for me.
Females allowed in pub at Forries
I had to give the sign about females being allowed in pubs a big thumbs up!

That’s all, folks! Have a happy weekend πŸ™‚

Parental airport returns and colleague’s Mexican (Japanese) goodbyes

This week has been a super busy one, mainly because I’m on leave next week soΒ had quite a bit of work to tick off my to-do list, then its Easter weekend and before you know it we’re in April! A quarter of the year gone! It’s hard to believe. Here are the past week’s highlights…

Saturday, 12 March 2016: Driftwood breakfast and parents airport pick-up

Coffee at Driftwood Cafe
We woke early and dropped the car off at the nearest car wash then trotted across to the Driftwood Cafe. I had this pleasing cup of coffee as part of my R25 breakfast.
Breakfast at Driftwood Cafe
Husband buttering toast to go with his bigger-than-mine breakfast.
Mum and dad's plane taxiing along the runway
We’d been tracking the parents’ planes through an app on Husband’s phone so timed our arrival at the airport pretty well. This was their flight from Joburg taxiing along the runway…
Watching plane disembark at Cape Town International Airport
We watched them disembark from the viewing deck before dashing down to the arrivals hall.
Sad dogs on couch
The doggies were very keen to see Granny and Grampa again, see their sad faces when I asked “Where’s Granny Grampa?”
Eyeball window display
Later that day we were at Tyger Valley Shopping Centre. I couldn’t help snapping a pic of this eye-catching window display at Identity.
Hot-air balloon mall display
Such a cute ‘hot-air balloon’. Husband snapped me sipping a McDonald’s caramel latte beside it. Yes that is Rey from Star Wars looking at it jealously over my shoulder and photobombing me.

Sunday, 13 March 2016: Breakfast at Rusty Oak Bistro

Rusty Oak Bistro buffet breakfast
We read up on the Rusty Oak Bistro at Ruslamere through Zomato and decided to try them for breakfast. Husband opted for the hot buffet – and promptly toppled the pepper grinder onto his first plateful, teehee.
Large cappuccino at Rusty Oak
My rather large cappuccino, just delicious
Waffles at Rusty Oak Bistro
I went for the waffle topped with berry and bacon bits – ahem, and got the double. And finished it all. Kept me full till we got to Mum’s for lupper that eve (note my fancy Roo shirt from the parents’ trip).
Heart fountains at Ruslamere
The pretty outdoor area at Ruslamere.
Raspberries and coffee icecream.
Much, much later, at Mum’s that eve we had raspberries with her homemade coffee icecream. Goodness me it was delicious. Washed down with a delightful pink wine.

Thursday, 17 March 2016: St Patrick’s Day work events and celebrations

Lightsabre lights in FCB building reception
I started my Thursday at an exclusive presentation at an agency walking distance from the office. Just love the multicoloured light-sabre type lights that hang from the reception area of the FCB/Hellocomputer building in Woodstock, and the little window near the ceiling. This picture does not do it justice.
FCB wall art Skrik vir niks
Walking to the lift I saw this interesting wall art – which I later found out was printed by Husband! Tis a very small world.
Coffee at FCB
There was time for a quick cup of coffee before the presentation began. Note my stripy pants did not match the stripy carpet.
Clouds over Lion's Head
Lots of pretty clouds about on my way to the bus stop after work that evening. There’s a definite chill in the air these days – the start of autumn so soon?
Guinness for St Patrick's Day
We were just too tired to head out anywhere after work for official celebrations, but Husband had a Guinness in St Paddy’s honour.

Friday, 18 March 2016: Fat Cactus farewell to Meg

Farewell Megan!
My colleague Megan (two down from me in this pic, she was in most of my pics from last year’s Loeries blog post) is jetting off to teach English in Japan in a few weeks, and as most people are on leave next week we had a brief farewell at the Fat Cactus across the road from the office today. I was sat at the ‘espresso milkshake’ end of the table πŸ™‚
Espresso shake at Fat Cactus
The Milkshake Queen strikes again! These are the espresso shakes in question. |I almost had another.

That’s all, folks! I’m going to use the next few days to switch off, reset and recharge my batteries. Hope you have a wonderful long weekend!
