Last weekend we had many foodie celebrations as we celebrated both my parents’ birthdays, as you’ll see from the pics below…
Thursday, 8 August 2019: Winter high tea at the Table Bay Hotel
We were invited to review the new winter high tea menu at the Table Bay Hotel, so ventured off to the V&A Waterfront after work was done for the day on Thursday. See lots of happy faces and lovely sights.
High tea, served in style! See our flutes of bubbly and scones and savouries, all this before we visited the main buffet table!
Tea is served! After sniffing away at lovely scented options I had a pot of the Pink Flamingo tea. Also see some fruity surprise treats – read all the words of my review on Bizcommunity to find out what they really are!
Seal mascots and a further course of tea-time treats meant we left with even bigger smiles on our faces. Highly recommended.
Friday, 9 August 2019: Women’s Day breakfast at Wimpy
Last Friday was the Women’s Day public holiday so we made full use of the opportunity to sleep in late and brunch at Wimpy. See my Bar-One waffle with regular Wimpy coffee, as well as Husband’s streaky bacon breakfast.
After a day of napping and reading, we ventured out for lupper at Colala in Table View, See Husband’s chicken kadai curry and my sweet-and-sour chicken.

Saturday, 10 August 2019: Hart Bakery breakfast, Dad’s 69th birthday lupper at Yo Eastern Fusion
Breakfast is served! We started the official weekend with breakfast at The Hart in Melkbos. See Husband’s large cappuccino and chorizo rosti, as well as my single cappuccino and single bacon benedict.
We ventured out for a coffee-time treat later that afternoon, as Husband spotted a new addition on the Entertainer app: ‘Simple Bru Coffee’ in Reef Surf shop, just off Marine Circle. He had a flat white while I enjoyed the vanilla latte, both served with bite of rusk.
Happy birthday to you! Saturday was Dad’s birthday, so we went for a joint early dins at Yo Eastern Fusion to celebrate. See various cocktails, happy faces and foodies.

What’s a birthday celebration without cake?! We popped in at Woolworths for this yummy white chocolate, caramel fudge cake and munched away at sunset at home.
Sunday, 11 August 2019: Breakfast at On the Rocks, Hout Bay roadtrip
We treated ourselves to breakfast at On the Rocks on Sunday. See the chandelier glowing brightly as well as Husband’s ‘Jonkershuijs’ breakfast bottom-left, full of pork belly, avo and poached egg, as well as my Hash bowl packed with potatoes, asparagus and poached eggs.
The takeaway coffee hatch next to On the Rocks is also a lovely spot to explore.

Next stop, Hout Bay! The weather was a tad chilly but just right for a road trip. I thoroughly enjoyed my slap chips with tartare sauce from Mariner’s Wharf and we walked around looking at the seals and gulls.
I was still full from my slap chip session so stuck with a cappuccino while Husband sampled the seafood curry at the Mariner’s Wharf restaurant upstairs. The slogan in the window frame says, “Our windows are cleaned regularly. If dirty, curse the seagulls or blame the weather.”
Tuesday, 13 August 2019: Mum’s 65th birthday dins at Petisco’s
Happy birthday to you! Tuesday was Mum’s birthday so we celebrated at a local favourite after work – Petiscos. See my Lindt chocolate Flake shake, as well as Husband’leaning in’ for the photo bottom-left, Dad’s full chicken cafreal bottom-right, and Mum’s birthday surprise shooter with a sparkler. The whole restaurant sang to her!

Saturday, 8 September 2018: Trecastelli breakfast, Fat Greek lunch
Last weekend’s mantra was all about trying new places to eat. We started first thing on Saturday with breakfast at Trecastelli in Marine Circle. See my cappuccino and ‘Nutella cornetto’ – R40 for both, as well as Husband’s cooked breakfast of two eggs, cheese, tomatoes, bacon and avo. Yum.

Sticking with our ‘try something new’ mandate, we decided on lunch at the Fat Greek, on Marine Circle. See my very pink shake and chicken gyro with chips, as well as Husband’s lamb kleftiko and glass of red. Lovely!

Sunday, 9 September 2018: Hout Bay roadtripping
With a road trip you never know when exactly you’ll stop for breakfast, so it’s a good idea to get a coffee for the road. Our cappuccinos were from Reload. Love the cute sugar bowls.
It was Yours Truly’s ‘Today and Tomorrow’ on Kloof Street where we finally stopped for breakfast. Husband went for the eggs benedict, and my banana bread breakfast with a chai latte was just right.
You can’t help but take beautiful mountain-ocean landscape shots when travelling along the Atlantic coastline.
Ah, Hout Bay. We stopped for another stroll and a spot of lunch once we reached Mariner’s Wharf.

Chapman’s Peak has numerous ‘scenic’ stops’ for snaps like this, back towards Hout Bay.
The train, complete with passengers, was stopped near Fish Hoek beach throughout our 10-minute or so walk above the beach.
We went back to one of our favourites, Saint’s in Eden on the Bay, for our final treat of the weekend. See my Insomniac alcoholic shake – chocolate with espresso, Amarula and Frangelico.
Proof that Husband was there, too – see his mint- and lime-heavy blueberry mojito.
We also stopped to smell the flowers, or rather sit amongst them, that afternoon. That’s how you know Spring is in the Cape!
Sweet Bassie was very interested in all the foodies when we had lupper at Mum’s that evening.
Some of the delicious Trecastelli Italian delicacies we ate at Mum’s that afternoon – not from our visit, they went for their own breakfast on Sunday, following our recommendation.
Monday, 10 September 2018: Day off reading, relaxing and pizza lunching
I had put in for a day’s leave, so spent much of the morning relaxing with the doglets. See my book, coffee and even Pop-tarts for brekkie.

The highlight of the day was milkshakes and half-price pizzas for lunch with my parents at Col’Cacchio in Seaside Village.
Thursday, 13 September 2018: Spark Media breakfast event
I started my Thursday at the Spark Media breakfast presentation, held at the Protea Hotel Fire & Ice. So much to choose from to eat – so much brain food, too – coverage coming to Bizcommunity, soon!
My sweet deskmate treated me to this new Bubbly Oreo chocolate slab on Thursday. Yum!

Welcome to 2017! My first post of the year is ready for you to view below, filled with moments from brother-in-law Spec’s last week with us. We’re back to work next week ourselves so will be wringing every moment of fun and relaxation out of the coming weekend…
Friday, 30 December 2016: Golf morning, Italian Kitchen lunch and Sea Point afternoon
While the boys went off for a round of golf at Burgundy Estate, I read magazines and mum baked little coconut cookies. Delicious!

We had 2-for-1 Entertainer vouchers to use before the end of 2016 at the Italian Kitchen so we had lunch at the branch in Newlands last Friday. Husband opted for the crumbed chicken salad, dad and I had huge square pizzas while mum and Spec went for spaghetti bolognaise. All delightful.

Saturday, 31 December 2016: Lacomia breakfast, New Year’s Eve braai
We went to Cafe Lacomia for our last breakfast of the year. I felt for a cafe latte (love pouring the espresso shot into the frothed milk) and couldn’t resist a slice of their soft chocolate cheesecake.
Our friends Chris and Diane had invited us to a New Year’s Eve braai on their farm near Philadelphia. Their brindle boerboel Zeplin has grown a huge amount in his 7 months ( click here for a reminder of how tiny he was a few months ago) and the Whites have made constant additions to their little house.

Sunday 1 January 2017: New Year’s Day ’round lunch’ at Mum’s
New Year’s Day! Eating ’round things’ on the first day of the year is said to bring you wealth throughout the year. We had lunch at Mum’s, starting with some dry Prosecco filled with round bubbles, then round tomato-filled salad, paella with round pork bits as well as round fruit on a flan with round balls of ice cream on round plates around a round table. Lots of round.
The doggies had quality time with their grampa that afternoon – Bassie sat on his lap while Bertie was very interested to hear ‘How much is that doggy in the window’, especially when there was barking in the song. Teehee.
Monday, 2 January 2017: Seeing Hout Bay like tourists and Rogue One in 4DX
For our last full day with Spec we started off at Blue Route Mall and breakfasted at Joe’s Diner. Husband had a hot dog, Spec a typical breakfast and me waffles with chocolate syrup. Yes, dessert for breakfast.
We paid a brief visit to Hout Bay to ‘sightsee’ like tourists…
Where we noticed this sunken ship. Not saying the brothers were responsible, but who knows 😉
We’d booked our 4DX tickets for Star Wars: Rogue One back when Spec first arrived in Cape Town and finally went to watch at the Waterfront on Monday afternoon. The moving seats, splashes of water and rushes of air at appropriate times really add a level of fun to the movie.
We held a final braai for Spec on his last evening with us. He’ll be down again soon as Husband’s parents will be moving into their new house in a few months.
Tuesday, 3 January 2017: I Love Melkies breakfast, bunny chow lupper
We decided on a short roadtrip to Melkbos for Spec’s last morning with us. For breakfast we stopped in at I Love Melkies. Close-ups of our food to follow…
That’s my cappuccino top left; then my single waffle with bacon, marscapone and strawberry; and Spec’s rosti topped with bacon and scrambled eggs all on the left, with Husband’s ‘Mexican breakfast’ on the right.
After dropping off Spec at the airport we were intrigued to notice a sign for Glowing Rooms’ ‘3D blacklight mini golf’ so popped in for a look around. Adding it to our to-do list for later in the year!
We decided on a shared chicken bunny chow from Yeh Dosti for our lupper. T’was delicious.
Wednesday, 4 January 2017: Ice-cream iced coffee
Wednesday afternoon was piping hot so I made myself an ice-cream iced coffee. Husband made a chicken curry that eve as seen in my bowl top right, and he lay on the couch with Bertie.
Husband has also been very busy with a vegetable corner of the garden, which I’ll reveal soon. That’s all for now, folks! Hope you’ve enjoyed the first week of 2017.
