Father’s Day 2019 lunch buffet at the Italian Club

This past week I’ve had my annual ‘Cannes Lions cold’, and it was also Father’s Day and the Youth Day public holiday (though I worked throughout), as you’ll see from the pics below…

Tuesday, 11 June 2019: Spark Media’s Roots 2019 launch

Last Tuesday, I attended Spark Media's Roots2019 research launch at the River Club. See some of the intriguing displays made from Lego - behind glass so they wouldn't be messed with (and snacks, meant for eating!)

Thursday, 13 June 2019: Sunrise over Woodstock

I had a super-early start at the office last Thursday, and remembered to pause to catch the sunrise out the window.

Friday, 14 June 2019:Β  Syrupy crumpets and sunsets

Mmm! When I worked from home last Friday, Mum whipped up a quick batch of crumpets - best enjoyed with tea and syrup, yum.

Saturday, 15 June 2019: Beef roast and potatoes, Weber-style

We decided on a slightly different breakfast on Saturday, at Primi on Marine Circle - see our coffees (flat white cappuccino for Husband, Mocha Forte for me), as well as our breakfasts - the berry pretty super protein bowl for me, the full Primi Power for him. Pricy but filling (I brought half of mine home for the next day).

As it was a long weekend and we'd be having a special Father's Day lunch with all the parents the next day, Spec slept over at ours on Saturday night. Husband Webered a roast beef, Mum supplied the potatoes and peas - dinner, sorted!

Sunday, 16 June 2019: Father’s Day lunch at the Italian Club

We arrived at the Italian Club at the same time as Husband's parents, so took a few snaps outside before heading into the big hall for lunch.

Buffeting! Finally, the tables were ready for us so we queued up for all the Italian food you can imagine. See some of the selections here.

I've been to the Italian Club so many times, yet never went out the back to see the view of the mountain. It's lovely!

Monday, 17 June 2019: Youth Day public holiday

As it was a public holiday on Monday because Youth Day fell on Sunday, we slept in a bit then headed to The Daily at Seaside Village in Big Bay for breakfast, once I'd done some work. See Husband's 'tasting tray' coffees, my Tin Cup and our breakfasts.

See my thick, puffy jacket (Winter is truly here), as well as close-ups of the food - my banana-caramel waffle pop and Husband's full brekkie (he saw another plate go past with those sausages and promptly changed his order, teehee).

Tuesday, 18 June 2019: Wintery work-from-home lunch

I worked from home again on Tuesday and stopped for a quick soup-with-toasteds break. Just what I needed!

Teehee! So many funny faces. Snapped when we had curry takeaways at Mum's on Tuesday evening - Gords was in town for business again so stayed the night with us.

That’s all, folks! I’m looking forward to switching off completely this weekend and recovering from this cold. May your weekend be warm and relaxing, too.

The Fat Greek, Cape Town’s spring flowers and Hout Bay roadtripping

Last weekend was chilly but bright, so we took advantage of the sunshine to take in some of the sights we forget when we stay closer to home in the wet winter months…

Friday, 7 September 2018: Spring Day braai at work

Spring braai at work.
Scenes from our Spring braai at work last Friday, after our monthly staff meeting. We were just finishing off when the rain came, good timing!

Saturday, 8 September 2018: Trecastelli breakfast, Fat Greek lunch

Breakfast at Trecastelli
Last weekend’s mantra was all about trying new places to eat. We started first thing on Saturday with breakfast at Trecastelli in Marine Circle. See my cappuccino and ‘Nutella cornetto’ – R40 for both, as well as Husband’s cooked breakfast of two eggs, cheese, tomatoes, bacon and avo. Yum.
Kites near Melkbos
Pretty kites near Melkbos that afternoon.
Lunch at the Far Greek
Sticking with our ‘try something new’ mandate, we decided on lunch at the Fat Greek, on Marine Circle. See my very pink shake and chicken gyro with chips, as well as Husband’s lamb kleftiko and glass of red. Lovely!
Blouberg
These post-lunch pics give an idea of the weather here – sunny but chilly. Various spots in and around Blouberg.

Sunday, 9 September 2018: Hout Bay roadtripping

Takeaway coffee from Reload.
With a road trip you never know when exactly you’ll stop for breakfast, so it’s a good idea to get a coffee for the road. Our cappuccinos were from Reload. Love the cute sugar bowls.
Breakfast at Yours Truly's Today and Tomorrow
It was Yours Truly’s ‘Today and Tomorrow’ on Kloof Street where we finally stopped for breakfast. Husband went for the eggs benedict, and my banana bread breakfast with a chai latte was just right.
Atlantic coastline
You can’t help but take beautiful mountain-ocean landscape shots when travelling along the Atlantic coastline.
Mariner's Wharf, Hout Bay
Ah, Hout Bay. We stopped for another stroll and a spot of lunch once we reached Mariner’s Wharf.
Chapman's Peak tunnel
The tunnel through a bit of mountain along Chapman’s Peak
Chapman's Peak drive
Chapman’s Peak has numerous ‘scenic’ stops’ for snaps like this, back towards Hout Bay.
Train in Fish Hoek
The train, complete with passengers, was stopped near Fish Hoek beach throughout our 10-minute or so walk above the beach.
Insomniac shake at Saint's
We went back to one of our favourites, Saint’s in Eden on the Bay, for our final treat of the weekend. See my Insomniac alcoholic shake – chocolate with espresso, Amarula and Frangelico.
Blueberry mojito at Saint's.
Proof that Husband was there, too – see his mint- and lime-heavy blueberry mojito.
Table Mountain Spring flowers
We also stopped to smell the flowers, or rather sit amongst them, that afternoon. That’s how you know Spring is in the Cape!
Dog
Sweet Bassie was very interested in all the foodies when we had lupper at Mum’s that evening.
Trecastelli pastries
Some of the delicious Trecastelli Italian delicacies we ate at Mum’s that afternoon – not from our visit, they went for their own breakfast on Sunday, following our recommendation.

Monday, 10 September 2018:Β  Day off reading, relaxing and pizza lunching

Dogs on couch
I had put in for a day’s leave, so spent much of the morning relaxing with the doglets. See my book, coffee and even Pop-tarts for brekkie.
Kitty socks
Lol at my fashion choices! Love these kitty socks.
Pizza at Col'Cacchio
The highlight of the day was milkshakes and half-price pizzas for lunch with my parents at Col’Cacchio in Seaside Village.

Thursday, 13 September 2018: Spark Media breakfast event

Breakfast at Fire & Ice
I started my Thursday at the Spark Media breakfast presentation, held at the Protea Hotel Fire & Ice. So much to choose from to eat – so much brain food, too – coverage coming to Bizcommunity, soon!
Dairy Milk Bubbly Oreo
My sweet deskmate treated me to this new Bubbly Oreo chocolate slab on Thursday. Yum!

That’s all, folks! Have a happy, healthy weekend filled with delicious moments. πŸ™‚

#Workworkwork events and Bassie has a taste for bubbly

I know I’m starting to sound like a stuck record but it’s been yet another super busy work week, as you’ll see below. Luckily, we managed a few treats between the scenes…

Saturday, 7 October 2017: Cocoa Wah Wah breakfast, dog-friendly braai

Cocoa Wah wah.
You probably can’t tell, but this is the inside magnet-and-graffiti wall corner of Cocoa Wah Wah on Main Road near Rosebank. We were in the Southern Suburbs to drop off the bike for a service, so stopped off there for a bite to eat.
Coca Wahwah French Toast
See my cappuccino with chocolate biccie top left, Husband’s Popper breakfast with side of chillies and Tabasco sauce and my full portion of chocolate-almond French Toast. Yes, that’s exactly what I ate the last time we visited Cocoa Wah Wah, click here for a reminder.
Braai and bubbly
Ching! Saturday evening usually means it’s braai time for the Andrews family. See what we ate and drank here (the bubbly was to celebrate the sale of Fairbridge, a house all five of us in the photo have lived in). But we’re not the only ones who enjoyed the celebrations…
Dog champagne
One minute I was merely holding my glass of fizz, the next Bassie had her tongue in the glass to try some.
Dog nap
The sweet girl hopped around like a little ping-pong ball for most of the visit but also had a few quiet ‘napping moments.
Dog on couch
Bertie boy was also being as sweet as ever – see how he snuggled up to both grandparents.
Sunset sky
Pretty cloudy sky just after sunset.

Sunday, 8 October 2017: Scones for breakfast and Milky Lane treats

Pink Olive at Stark Ayres.
We decided on the Pink Olive in our nearest Stark Ayres nursery for Sunday breakfast. See my cappuccino and fresh scones topped with jam and cream on the left, and Husband’s bacon basket’ on the right. He rated those among the best mini tomatoes he’s eaten.
Milky Lane Table Bay Mall
When we lived in Joburg, Milky Lane was top of my list for weekend treats, especially for the berry-meringue whizzer. That’s why I was thrilled to find a proper sit-down Milky Lane at the new Table Bay Mall. No mere ice cream counter here, there are tables and seats and full menus to browse. This tasted just as good as a remember!
Dacschund
Little Miss Bass also had lots of lap time at her other grandparents’ house on Sunday. Everyone loves this little brownie.

Tuesday, 10 October 2017: Spark Media breakfast talk at The River Club

River Club in Mowbray
On Tuesday, I attended Spark Media’s presentation on mental availability for marketers at The River Club. It was a gorgeous day and I learned lots – click here if you missed my overview.

Wednesday, 11 and Thursday, 12 October 2017: Business of Design

Business of Design
Business of Design is one of my favourite conferences, and it was finally time for the 2017 version on Wednesday and Thursday this week. Held at Red & Yellow School in Salt River, it’s filled with inspirational speakers from the design realm. Click here, here and here for my feedback articles so far.
Business of Design
Me with the ladies I sometimes work with – Business of Design’s Head of Programme Tracy on the left and Ann on the right, who covers the Cannes Lions Trends for us.

That’s all, folks! Happy weekend πŸ™‚
