Friday, 21 June 2019: Orange sky before the storm

Cold weather means lots of cold doggies snuggling up under blankies. And watching the rain from between the curtains.
Saturday, 22 June 2019: Munching at Trecastelli and Colala on Marine Circle
See our breakfast at Trecastelli on Marine Circle last Saturday morning. Flat whites and the cooked breakfast for Husband (it’s not on the menu but quite a popular choice), while I had the cappuccino-croissant special.
I was in dire need of a coffee refill when we were at the Mall later that afternoon. Nothing a R10 dirty chai latte from Xpresso can’t fix!
On Saturday afternoon we popped into Colala on Marine Circle for an early dins – they serve Asian fusion food, so you can have sushi and a creamy curry like Husband, or chicken cashew nut with egg fried rice like me. They also serve milkshakes like this caramel one, yay and bonus, they’re on the Entertainer app – we’ll be back!
Sunday, 23 June 2019: Reload Leadville breakfast
Sunday was a ‘Reload Leadville’ kind of morning, so we popped in for breakfast. See my mashed avo bagel and peppermint-choc latte, as well as Husband’s ‘trim’ mince, cheese and onion omelette. We also gret numerous happy doggies having walkies with their owners.

Wednesday, 26 June 2019: Pasta Ripiena master class at 95@Parks
On Wednesday, I attended a ‘pasta ripiena’ master class at 95 at Parks, where chef Giorgio Nava shared tips and techniques to make his legendary stuffed pasta dishes. Mum came along too! See her with chef Nava, as well as the delightful setting.
I also had my pic snapped with Chef Nava, of course! See the delicious cheese we snacked on, the cosy setting, our first course of spinach and butternut ravioli, and the deep-fried Pasta Montenara.
The master class in action! Chef Giorgio Nava, with his two ‘helpers’, Giovanna and Jonas. All three showed us various aspects of the filled pasta creation process.

Thursday, 27 June 2019: Surprise 50th office birthday party
We surprised our CEO with a birthday party a day early on Thursday. See some of the decorations and snacks.
Happy birthday! See Andre in white, just to the left of the gold ’50’ balloons, with the rest of team Biz gathered around.
We had pots of delicious Thai curry and rice, as well as stacks of sweet treats – always doughnuts for Andre – to celebrate.

Saturday, 9 February 2019: Burgers and shakes at Gibson’s Gourmet Burgers, V&A Waterfront
We were up and about early on Saturday so decided on breakfast at The Hart Bakery in Melkbos. See the pretty floral decor, also my single bacon benedict and Husband’s chorizo rosti.
Bassie was very interested in my quick ‘coffee and cake treat’ later that morning – Husband’s parents dropped off the wedge of baked milktart from their roadtrip to Philadelphia. Now you have the Philadelphia song playing in your head, I’m sure… “The streets of Philadelphia, nah nah nah…” Sorry. It sure was good!
Taking the scenic route meant it was all palm trees and sunny skies on the way into town.
Beautiful blue skies and cloudy tops for Table Mountain on our way along the R27 that afternoon, as a table was waiting for us at Gibson’s Gourmet Burgers in the V&A Waterfront.
Once seated with a view across the water, we browsed the immense flip-style menu to find just the concoctions that tickled our fancy. See Husband’s Amarula Colada and my chocolate-toffee-cashew shake. That spoon came in handy for scooping up all the cashews that had drifted to the bottom of the glass!
And the food! There’s almost any combination of toppings available, which is why I ended up with the ‘onion blossom’ on mine – that’s a full fried onion, instead of a side of onion rings, accompanied by sweet potato fries, while Husband had the Philly Cheese Steak and accompanying baked potato – one of the best taters he’s ever eaten.
Bellies full, we decided on a quick quayside stroll before heading back to the car. This was just before 7pm, the sun was nowhere near ready for setting…
I almost blended in with the rhinos outside the Waterfront’s main quay, so bright and festive and rounded were we.
Sunday, 10 February 2019: Early morning doggy beach walks
The doglets were thrilled at the idea of beach walkies first thing on Sunday, before the humans had even had breakfast.

Beach walkies done and doglets back at home, it was a Woolworths W Cafe breakfast on Sunday as we had mall admin to sort out. See my vanilla-cinnamon cappuccino, Husband’s regular flat white and Coke Zero, my croissant French Toast and his exotic tomato breakfast, all featuring lots of flaked almonds.
A quick coffee pick-me-up break later in the day at Xpresso in Table View Mall meant a dirty chai latte for me and a double espresso con panna for Husband.
One of Mum’s former work colleagues was in town last Sunday so we met up for a ‘team lunch’ with other friends at Panama Jack’s. See the Thai Fish Curry, which was ordered by most, and my starter portion of crispy sesame duck with peanut dressing.
We were so full from lunch that it was just sweet treats for lupper at Mum’s later that afternoon – crumpets with syrup, jam and honey; juicy cherries, frozen yoghurt cups and coffee with biscuits. Yum!

We’re finally on leave! And we’ve been in holiday mode for a while as last weekend was a long one – Day of Reconciliation was on Sunday, so Monday was a public holiday…
Saturday, 15 December 2018: Pre-Christmas braai
We had various weekend admin things to do near Table View shopping centre on Saturday morning, so we breakfasted at Blueberries. See our cappuccinos in glass mugs, Husband’s Coke Zero, his hash brown breakfast and my toasted bacon and banana on brown.
We’d not braaied at Husband’s parents in a while, so that’s where we spent our Saturday evening. See various decorations and braai foods.
Husband and Spec got into the festive spirit at their parents house, by helping to decorate.

Sunday, 16 December 2018: Weekly sea dip in Blouberg
Our Place has opened where Melissa’s used to be, on Marine Circle, so that’s where we breakfasted on Sunday. See our strong coffees, Husband’s eggs benedict and my toasted chicken mayo.
We stopped at Xpresso in Table Bay Mall for a quick R10 coffee treat, mid-mall-mole (Ask me if you don’t know what that means, teehee). A con panna for Husband and a toffee caramel latte for me.
If you look closely, you can just make out Husband along the edge of the rocks here, about to have his weekly sea dip.
Monday, 17 December 2018: Public holiday quality time with doggies
Conditions were just right for beach walkies once we’d had a lie-in and done some house admin that morning. See the doglets at various stages of their walk/swim/paddle.

We hadn’t been to Woodbridge Island in a while, so visited on Monday afternoon. See Husband at the lighthouse.
Our milkshakes at Beach Tavern – see Husband’s pina colada shake topped with coconut shavings, and my sweet banoffee pie shake. Yum!
We had lupper at CTFM in Seaside Village that evening. The Monday burger special is still R55, and Husband enjoyed his paella. Also see my cafe mocha and Husband’s glass of red.

Saturday, 3 November 2018: Halloween braai at Husband’s parents
We started our weekend with breakfast at Green’s in Plattekloof Village. See my apple-berry crumble and cappuccino, as well as Husband’s flat white, Coke Zero and open haddock omelette.

We saw people queuing to get into Xpresso, newly opened in Table Bay Mall, so stopped in to find out what all the fuss was about. Everything costs R10! Whether you’re having a fancy flavoured coffee, a sandwich roll, pastry or cold drink, you’ll only be parting with a single green note. Husband loved the con panna so much he had two of them, and my top-deck hot chocolate was delicious. We’ll be back!
Husband’s parents hosted a Halloween-themed braai on Saturday evening. See our hasselback potatoes, pumpkin-filled gemsquashes and various braai meats.

Main meals eaten, it was time for dessert. We had a jumbo bag of jumbo marshmallows to braai (see Bassie attempting a raw one). Bertie was more interested in my slice of milktart, teehee.

Sunday, 4 November 2018: Bread & Butter’s single benedicts, jumbo oysters at Catch 22
We breakfasted at Bread and Butter on Sunday. See the enormous bacon, avo and egg-filled croissant as devoured by Spec, as well as the cakes on display, our flat whites and the single benedicts on sweet-potato bread, as eaten by Husband and me.
We stopped in at Catch 22 later that afternoon, so Spec could try the jumbo oysters. I had a gingerbread latte, Husband had a Bloody Mary and Spec an Amstel.
Make-your-own gatsby lupper at Mum’s! We had a choice of spicy chicken or chilli con carne to fill them with. Mmm.

Wednesday, 7 November 2018: Team lunch at La Bottega
It had been a while since our last team lunch – we’ve all been so busy that we kept postponing. Luckily, Wednesday we finally made it happen. See some of the lovely poke bowls and pizzas we ate at La Bottega – the bacon and sliced-potato version is especially good – just up the road from our offices in Woodstock. Also see my Nutella-banana gourmet shake. Yum!
