Tiger’s Milk breakfasts and Hotel Glencairn gourmet milkshakes

T’was another sunny weekend and brother-in-law Spec’s turn to host the braai so we made our way to Fish Hoek and spent the day exploring the other end of the Cape. But first…

Friday, 19 January 2018: Work milkshakes at Red Sofa Cafe

Red Sofa Cafe in Cape Town.
I had a business meet Vredehoek side on Friday. If you’ve never been to Red Sofa Cafe, you’ll know you’re at the right place not because of a red sofa (I didn’t see one) – but rather by the ‘but first coffee’ sign outside and the cheery red interior jam-packed with hipsters typing away at their keyboards. Also, see two of the sunset scenes we snapped that evening.
Chocolate brownie shake at Red Sofa Cafe
See the Red Sofa Cafe chocolate brownie shake here, with chunks of brownie swirled throughout. Delicious!

Saturday, 20 January 2018: Day out exploring Muizenberg and Fish Hoek

Tiger's Milk
Tiger’s Milk in Muizenberg was our first stop of the weekend. We’ll need to go back later in the day to try some of the other tempting things they serve – burgers, pizzas, nachos and cocktails. Mmm!
Breakfast at Tiger's Milk
I went for the flapjacks with twirls of bacon and cooked banana, with a cappuccino to drink. Husband had the Ranchero breakfast pan and a Coke Light (not pictured).
Breakfast at Tiger's Milk
Breakfast is served, Tiger’s Milk-style.
Muizenberg sea
Beautiful yet windy day in Muizenberg. Things quickly turned cloudy and grey.
Hotel Glencairn
We stopped in at the lovely Hotel Glencairn for a quick treat on our way towards the braai. I loved the ‘Ubuntu’ wall and pretty purple patterned cushion inside.
Hotel Glencairn milkshake
We sat inside as the deck looked lovely but too windy. See the ‘Chappies wrapper’-print menu, Husband’s Castle draught beer and the peanut butter carmel-fudge gourmet shake I downed.
Sitting on rock
You can see just how much the weather had changed here – it was still warm but with an icy wind, very odd weather conditions.
Braai food
Braai food included potato salad, green salad without lettuce, a variety of meats on the grill, garlic bread and a s’mores-type braai pudding. We ate and we ate!

Sunday, 21 January 2018: Mugg n Bean breakfast, dips in the chilly sea

Mugg n Bean breakfast
We Sunday breakfasted at Mugg n Bean in the Table Bay Mall on Sunday morning. See my frozen mocha and choc-chip flapjacks, as well as Husband’s guava juice and bacon-bean hash benedict. Far too much food all round, we both ended up with takeaway boxes.
Mugg n Bean breakfast
Sunday breakfast, Mugg n Bean-style.
Kleinbaai
It was beach weather again that day, so after a bit of weekend admin we made our way to Kleinbaai. The water was very chilly but that never stops Husband from diving in, as you can see bottom left.
Seagull in Table View.
Seagull sunning itself on the rocks.
Dogs on couches
Sweet doggies at their grandparents’ house that afternoon.
Farfalle pasta
Mum made a delicious farfalle pasta dish for lupper that evening.

Thursday, 25 January 2018: Thursday cupcake, final Red & Yellow #digitalmarketingLIVE lecture and a healthy Bassie

Chocolate cupcake
It was a lovely surprise to find a freshly baked mini chocolate cupcake on my desk.
Red and Yellow School
T’was the very last #digitalmarketingLIVE lesson at Red & Yellow on Thursday afternoon. Will miss my weekly learning sessions there!
Dacschund
Aww. Little Miss Bassie got a clean bill of health following her six-month check-up and was happy to have a snuggle that evening.

That’s all, folks! It’s Husband’s birthday this coming Monday, so you know what to expect in the next blog update 🙂

Blouberg beachfront dining: On the Rocks breakfast and Moyo lunch

Last weekend was so sunny that even though we’re desperate for a bit of rain in the Cape, we filled it with delicious outdoors-y moments…

Saturday, 13 January 2018: Breakfast at On the Rocks, lupper at Moyo

On the Rocks breakfast menu
We’d tried to breakfast at On the Rocks twice over the December holidays – the first time it was completely closed, the second time it was hosting a private function – so we were pleased to find a table outside when we popped in last Saturday morning.
On the Rocks
Various snaps of the front and back of On the Rocks.
Cappuccino at On the Rocks with view of Table Mountain
Aaah. Cappuccino, fresh sea breeze and sunshine? Yes please! Best way to start the weekend.
Sitting outside at On the Rocks
Husband soaking up some of that sunshine.
Breakfast at On the Rocks
Husband chose the breakfast pan, I had the French toast with berry compote. Lip-smackingly good!
Selfie at Table Mountain
We did a brief walk to work off some of that food. Sunny selfie on the sea shore.
Face-painting at Moyo
After some weekend admin it was time to venture out into the sunshine again. T’was quite windy so we sat in the sheltered section at Moyo in Big Bay. See Husband enjoying his wine and me having my face painted before starting on my coffee-cashew smoothie.
Burger at Moyo
See my dukka-spiced burger (with cheese and bacon) and side of thick fries, as well as Husband’s lamb-shank linguine, and Husband with a chip on his shoulder. Literally. 🙂
Moyo face-paint
Second beach selfie of the day, but you can’t quite see my face-painting in the bright light…
Facepaint on couch with dog
So Husband took a quick snap before I wiped it off, while resting on the couch with Bertie.
Dog on couch
Little Bassie proved she’s also always a pretty girl, even without face-paintings.

Sunday, 14 January 2017: Sea swims and coffee in a cone

W Cafe cake and coffee at Woolworths
We breakfasted at W Cafe in Table Bay Mall’s Woolworths. See Husband’s super-tall cappuccino and eggs benedict on mushroom, with my vanilla-cinnamon latte and coconut loaf topped with pineapple cream cheese and coconut shavings. Yummy!
Sea swim in Cape Town
Husband contemplating his weekly dip in the sea.
Coffee in a cone
I really felt for coffee in a cone as my Sunday afternoon treat, but most places where I’ve had it before were now out of stock. Luckily we found it at Cup & Cake in Eden on the Bay. If you drink out the coffee, you’re left with warm, melty-chocolate in the sugar cone.
Bunny chow and mixed berries
Mum had made weather-appropriate food for lupper that afternoon – chicken curry that we scooped into French loaf to make mini bunny chows, with dessert of ice cream, watermelon and mixed berries.

Monday, 15 January 2018: Office birthday cake

Birthday cakes
It had been Biz managing editor Sindy’s birthday over the weekend, so she treated us to an assortment of crisps, sweeties, fruit, cupcakes, marshmallows and amazing chocolate-caramel-coconut swiss roll when we got to work on Monday. Best way to start the week!
Cake in office
The selection of sweets and treats I munched on throughout the day.

Thursday, 18 January 2018: Seventh #digitalmarketingLIVE lesson at Red & Yellow

Red and Yellow digital marketing live
Thursday was the first #digitalmarketingLIVE session of the year – there’s only one to go before I’ve completed all eight! ‘Seth Rotherham’ of 2OceansVibe Radio shared his first-hand experiences with running a business on digital and social media.
Red and Yellow school
I sat with Su Little and we took a few versions of this snap to properly include Wesley, the Red & Yellow staffer photobombing us, here. #digitalmarketinggeeks

That’s all, folks! It’s set to be another scorcher of a weekend, stay cool.

Bites at Bossa, Brocka and beach dogs

We’ve successfully ticked off the first work week of the year, so there are fewer pics to scroll through than over the past few weeks, alas…

Friday, 5 January 2018: Wimpy brekkie, doggy beach walk and litchi milkshake at Black Forest Cafe

Wimpy breakfast
A final Wimpy breakfast for the holiday – see my super-large Wimpy coffee and croissant, with Husband’s streaky bacon breakfast plus cheese griller.
Dog in car
That’s the happy face of Bassie after beach walkies.
Dog in car
Bertie singing a happy song about his beach walkies.

And Bassie again. Aww!
Dog on couch
Bertie biscuit had some quiet time on the couch post-walkies.
Dog on couch
Little Miss Bassie also napping on the couch after beach walkies, with her ears flapped up.
Litchi milkshake at Black Forest Cafe
That’s a litchi milkshake topped with sprinkles for me and a small butter-toffee for Husband, to mark our last ‘work day of leave’ together.

Saturday, 6 January 2018: Breakfast at Brocka, swimming in Blouberg

Brocka
We stopped in at the newly opened Brocka in Canal Walk last Saturday morning. They’re the ultimate in fast-food – even if you order from a table, your food and drink is served takeaway style.
Table Mountain
I spy Table Mountain.
Table Mountain
It was another beach-weather day. Here is Husband, literally ‘testing the water’ at the beach.
Sea
Gazing at his favourite swimming hole.

Sunday, 7 January 2018: Sunday lunch at Bossa, final holiday treat at Saint’s

Bossa
My parents were attending an event on Sunday afternoon so we met them for lunch a little earlier than usual at Bossa in Burgundy Estate. The food was fast and delicious – we’ll be back!
Beer at Bossa
Teehee. Love the faces they pulled!
Cafe Capri at Saint's
Final treat of the weekend before my return to work was an afternoon at Saint’s, Eden on the Bay – Husband went for a Toblerone cocktail, I had the Cafe Capri (latte with chocolate and coconut). Delicious!

Wednesday, 10 January 2018: Mid-week dins at the in-laws

Dogs at sunset
As we’d not seen Husband’s parents last weekend, we popped in after work on Wednesday evening for dins. The doglets came with, as you can see.

That’s all folks, have a happy weekend! 🙂

Strandloper fishy feast and Rocomama’s twisted cheesecake

If we’ve not yet spoken this year, happy 2018! It’s been a relaxing-yet-busy first week for us, as you’ll see below…

Friday, 29 December 2017: Day of rest

Breakfast at Mugg n Bean
Friday was a day of rest, with this breakfast at Mugg n Bean in Table Bay Mall one of our only excursions. See Husband’s poached eggs on potato-bean hash brown, with my avo and poached egg toast and iced mocha. Highly recommended!

Saturday, 30 December 2017: Hot chocolate sampling tray at The Daily, sunset at the beach

Breakfast at The Daily
We started our weekend as such: I went for the ‘hot chocolate tasting tray’ – white, dark and rooibos – with cinnamon-sugar pancakes while Husband had the eggs florentine and cappuccino at The Daily in Seaside Village.
We took advantage of the sunny weather later that day, with Husband having a dip in the sea at Castle Rock.
Ice cream at the beach
T’was an ‘ice cream on the beach’ day, so that’s just what I had for my afternoon treat. Was lovely, with ice cream all the way to the tip of the cone!
Braai in Sunningdale
The weekly braai took place at Husband’s parents’ house later that afternoon, with Spec coming home with us and staying until New Year’s Day. Various snaps from the braai…
Beach sunset
Lovely sunset at the beach on our way home that evening.

Sunday, 31 December 2017: New Year’s Eve Webered turkey

Breakfast at Foodlover's Market
We opted for Foodlover’s Market for our final breakfast of 2017. See our cappuccinos, my bacon-feta-avo tramezzini with chips, and the boys’ halloumi stack breakfasts.
Woodbridge beach tavern
We stopped in at the Beach Tavern in Woodbridge Island for a brief beach visit and our final afternoon treat of the year. See my pina colada shake on the left.
New Year's Eve turkey
There was gentle rain when Husband Webered ANOTHER turkey for New Year’s Eve, complete with confit potatoes and bright green peas.

Monday, 1 January 2018: Fry-up and prawn braai

New Year's Day breakfast
We learned last year that almost everything is closed on New Year’s Day, so we planned ahead and stocked up on breakfast essentials ahead of the big day. Once we’d all rolled out of bed, Husband cooked a fry-up for all.
Prawn and pepper sosatie
Spec left for his home after breakfast, and we got ready to put the Weber to use again with prawn skewers and peri-peri chicken. See mum and dad creating the prawn-and-peppers sosaties and the final outcome.
New Year's Day bubbly
Husband did the honours of popping the New Year’s Day bubbly.
Dogs on couch
The hot doggies spent lots of time resting under the cool fans this week.

Tuesday, 2 January 2018: Melkbos morning, Woodbridge walk

Melkbosstrand beach
Melkbosstrand beach was crowded as a result of the ‘beach weather’ day on Tweede Nuwe Jaar.
Castella Amare in Melkbosstrand
Castella Amare on the beachfront was one of few places open pre-noon on Tuesday, so that’s where we breakfasted. See our cocoa-topped cappuccinos, Husband’s eggs royale (salmon eggs ben) and my flapjacks with bacon and banana.
Woodbridge Island walk
Various stages of the Woodbridge-Lagood Beach walk. We prefer starting at Woodbridge Island side, walking along the tree-lined road to Lagoon Beach, where we cross the stream and walk back to the Milnerton lighthouse along the beachfront. Walkies done, we stop for a treat. See Husband’s draught and the Dragon Fiery Apple I chose. They were frosty and delicious.

Wednesday, 3 January 2018: Day in Langebaan

Roosterkoek
We stopped off at the Vygevallei farm stall for breakfast, and ate at ‘Route 27 Roosterkoek’, which only served roosterbroodjies (coal-fired sarmies).
Roosterkoek
Of course I had a coffee to start (two tea bags of coffee in the pot = two tin cups full). Also see our ‘roosterkoeks’. Mine was jam and cheese, Husband had egg and cheese topped with hot sauce.
Swim at Shark Bay
We met up with Husband’s parents at Shark Bay for a swim in the sea mid-morning. It was chilly but so refreshing!
Strandloper
Our destination for the afternoon – Strandloper! It offers a 10-course fishy feast, and if you’re a non-fish eater like me there’s still lots to fill that belly…
Food at Die Strandloper
Mutton bredie! Crayfish! Moerkoffie in the sea!
Food at Die Strandloper
We also ate… farm bread with three different types of konfyt (jam) – tomato, pineapple and fig. Mussels served two ways. Haarders. Koeksister twists with moerkoffie.

Thursday, 4 January 2018: News Cafe breakfast, Eden on the Bay walk, Rocomama’s treats

Breakfast at News Cafe
We woke up early enough for the early bird breakfast at News Cafe on Thursday morning. See our cappuccinos, Husband’s avo and chourizo eggs benedict and my early bird English breakfast. Very filling!
Table Mountain from Eden on the Bay
We worked off a bit of that breakfast with a brisk beach walk from Eden on the Bay to Kleinbaai and back – stopping at the yellow Nat Geo frame for a few snaps, of course.
Rocomamas
On Thursday afternoon we went to the Durbanville branch of Rocomama’s with my parents. See dad’s burger and my chili con carne-topped fries.
Twisted cheesecake
This is what we came for – chocolate-syruped shakes with a tot of Jack Daniels served in skull-shaped glasses, and I tried the tiramisu version of their twisted cheesecake. So good!

That’s all, folks. It’s back to work for us next week so we’ll be making the most of our sunshine hours together this weekend! 🙂
