Weekend Driftwood afternoons and Winter-warm dogs get a Spring clean

Woohoo! September’s always a happy month as we’re over the worst of the work things and the end of the year is in sight so the pressure eases off a little. Here are a few of our happier moments from the past week and a bit…

Sunday, 27 August: Post-Tulbagh Driftwood shakes and beach selfies

Driftwood Cafe
Ahh. Late-Winter means you often get surprisingly warm, non-windy days just perfect for sitting in the sun and defrosting. That’s just what we did after we got home from our Tulbagh weekend, with a lazy draught, shake and meal at the Driftwood.
Beach selfies
Later that afternoon it was time for a few beach selfies. I am amused πŸ˜‰

Tuesday, 29 August 2017: Pamro conference at the Vineyard Hotel, doggies get a delivery

Mike Broom at Pamro
I bumped into Mike Broom of Panel Services Africa/Infotools/Marketing Science at the Pamro conference and had a quick catch-up chat.
Vineyard Hotel pool
This picture shows just how gloomy the weather was that day – just right for having an informative day indoors while the rain beat down outside.
Pamro at Vineyard Hotel
Conference shots. The hotel was full on the day and the food was amazing, as always. I also wrote about my learnings from the day – you can read through a few of the topics here, here, here and here.
Hills Dreammaker
The doggies received a Very Exciting media pack that evening – so excting that Bertie got into the box to see what it was. Oh joy, another #Dreammaker cushion from Hills! Say goodbye to the days of sharing!
dogs on hills dreammaker
The doggies have spent every chilly evening since then just like this, huddled in front of the warmth of the fire on their Hills #Dreammaker cushis.

Friday, 1 September 2017: #Cupcakeformyhero

#Cupcakeformyhero
Last Friday was Spring Day here in the Southern Hemisphere, as well as the launch of this year’s #cupcakesformyhero initiative by Mugg & Bean. For R22 you get a tangy, fluffy lemon meringue cupcake in aid of childhood cancer awareness.

Saturday, 2 September 2017: Rocomamas and braai at our house

Breakfast at Village Place Cafe
We had lots of weekend chores to get through last Sunday still, so started off with breakfast at Village Place Cafe in West Coast Village. I had the heart-biscuited cappuccino and blueberry-topped banting flapjacks, husband had the light Village breakfast.
Rocomamas
A meal at Rocomama’s is always a good idea. Here is Husband with his Castle Lite draught and chilli cheese bomb chicken burger. I went for the classic cheese beef smash burger and the ‘surprise me’ freak shake. It was an espresso/coffee/caramel concoction on the day. YUMMY! There’s also a sped-up video of me drinking it that we may or may not release πŸ˜‰
dogs on couch
Bassie was not impressed when her brother decided to disembowel his current bear, Elephant, on the couch beside her during the weekly braai.
Dogs sleeping
The Andrews family at the braai – the doggies were content to nap on the couch in front of the blazing fire. PS: Yes, my hair looks a completely different colour to the photo from Rocomamas earlier – it’s all the lighting.
Caramel braai pudding
Caramel braai pudding. Sticky and runny and delicious.

Sunday, 3 September 2017: A dunk in the sea and doggy spring clean

Waffle and eggs benedict at Greens
We headed off to Greens in Plattekloof Centre for Sunday morning breakfast. Both of us had a cappuccino to start, with Husband devouring a spinach-and-mushroom eggs benedict and the caramel-banana waffle for me. Yip, more caramel!
Sea
Husband had a proper dunking in the sea that afternoon. Look at those crashing waves!
Wet dog
The doggies had a proper spring clean themselves that afternoon. Here’s Bertie trying to dry off in a bit of sun.
Wet dog
Bassie chose a cooler corner.
Avo strawberry salad and jelly trifle
Lupper at Mum’s that eve – strawberry avo salad, unpictured roast chicken and jelly-custard trifle for dessert.

Wednesday, 6 September 2017: Coffee catch-up at Cassis

Cassis in Gardens Centre
I met Mike Broom for part two of our coffee chat this week, at Cassis in Gardens Centre. See my custard-chocolate twist with my first cappuccino, while he went for an Americano with hot milk and a caramel apple tartlet.

That’s all, folks! Note that there won’t be a blog update next week, but the following week’s will be well worth the wait – we promise πŸ˜‰ Happy weekend!

3D neon putt-putt and Blowfish dins for Dad’s 67th birthday

August is almost everyone else in my family’s birthday – dad, mum, mum-in-law – so expect celebrate-y pics on the blog over the coming weeks. First up was dad this last Thursday, with a public holiday the day before so we got to spend some time with him.

But first…

Wednesday, 2 and Thursday, 3 August 2017: Social media leadership workshop at Red & Yellow School

Red & Yellow School
I was back in the thick of things after our mid-week break at Old Mac Daddy, covering the two-day social media Executive Education workshop at Red & Yellow School in Salt River. Click here for the four articles I wrote as a result.
Brave curious minds
Mike Stopforth presented the workshop and boy did I learn a lot! ‘Brave curious minds’ indeed.

Friday, 4 August 2017: New office reveal and Italian Experience media launch at 95 at Parks

Bizcommunity new office
A few snaps of what our new office space looks like. Just one floor up from where we were before, that’s our bright, colourful new entrance; clown-themed kitchen space; my desk complete with disinterested antelope mug; and a pink Mmmallow to show how it tied in the rest of the purple in the room that day.
Lion's Head
And the view from my desk? Well if you factor in my love of Lion’s Head and pink sunrise skies, you’ll know this is about as good as it gets.
95 at Parks, Constantia
Friday afternoon saw the media launch of Giorgio Nava’s new Italian Experience at 95 at Parks in Constantia. Some snaps of the setting…
Italian experience at 95 at Parks
The first lot of food we sampled included calamari and veggie tempura with Prosecco, deconstructed Caprese salad and orecchiette with veal.
95 at Parks italian experience
Even more food. This is the ravioli, gnocchi, osso bucco and gelati. Full descriptions in my official review here! Yes, I ate everything you see here.

Saturday, 5 August 2017: Wimpy waffles, relaxed doggies and family braai

Wimpy waffle
I was in the mood for a waffle for Saturday morning breakfast so we stopped off at Wimpy, Canal Walk first thing. See my Wimpy coffee, sweet treat waffle, and Husband Tabasco-saucing his mince-and-egg bowl.
Dogs
Sweet Saturday afternoon doggies, eating grass and relaxing on the couch accordingly.
Braai
It was once again time for us to host the Andrews’ family braai. Note assorted snacks, Bassie sitting with mommy, Bertie sitting with his dad and uncle (all bedecked in brown), and the end-result.

Sunday, 6 August 2017: News Cafe breakfast, Eden on the Bay milkshake treats

News Cafe breakfast
News Cafe was the place to be for Sunday morning breakfast. It was buzzing so we had quite a wait but enjoyed my early-bird special (half-price English breakfast) and Husband’s City Slicker (eggs benedict complete with avo and chorizo).
Dog with toy
It was time for Bertie to get a new TV-viewing companion, so we introduced him to his new bear, Elephant. Look at that happy little face. ❀
Milkshakes at Eden on the Bay Primi
We wanted fancy shakes for our Sunday afternoon treats. See my real strawberry shake and Husband’s hot-fudge-and-bourbon version at Primi in Eden on the Bay.

Wednesday, 9 August 2017: Women’s Day Snickers cookie, Driftwood Cafe mussel pot and Glowing Rooms’ 3D putt-putt

Black Forest Cafe Snickers cookie
We started our Women’s Day with breakfast at the Black Forest Cafe. Just the place to get your coffee fix, clearly, and each lady ordering a coffee got a free cookie. I went for my favourite Snickers cookie, topped and filled with bits of choc. Yum!
Driftwood Cafe
We stopped off at the Driftwood Cafe while the car was being washed. That’s my latte, Husband’s Black Label draught and my tiramisu in a martini glass.
Mussel pot at Driftwood
Husband went for the mussel pot mains – served in a creamy tomato broth, he mopped up all the last bits.
Glowing Rooms 3D putt-putt
We wanted to treat my dad to a different experience for his birthday, so headed off to the Galaxy Adventure 3D putt-putt Glowing Rooms in Milnerton. What a treat it was!
Glowing Rooms scenery
Some of the otherworldly scenery. Couple this with the black lights, 3D glasses and unexpected hills and vales on the course and you feel like you’re drunk or drugged!
3D putt-putt Glowing Rooms
This is the type of photo you end up taking there. Very otherworldly!
Glowing Rooms 3D putt putt
Some of the holes were very tricky indeed but Mum and Dad each managed a hole-in-one, with dad the overall victor. No, we didn’t just let him win.

Thursday, 10 August 2017: DJ Yoda and Dad’s birthday dins at Blowfish

Yoda graffiti
I had a meeting in Salt River on Thursday afternoon, and couldn’t resist snapping a photo of this lovely ‘DJ Yoda’ graffiti in their chill room.
Turkish Delight milkshake
We met my parents at Blowfish restaurant in Dolphin Beach after work on Thursday for Dad’s birthday dins. That’s my Turkish Delight shake, the others all had wine.
Dinner at Blowfish
We were seated at what I call ‘the best table in the house’ – at the back with a view across the bay to Table Mountain, bedecked with twinkly lights.
Food at Blowfish
All four of us had the Kite Boarders’ salad of chicken, bacon, avo, egg – yummy. Then see the calamari-prawn combo the others had for mains, and the caramel cheesecake I had for mains/dessert. DELICIOUS!

That’s all, folks! See you next week…

*Disclaimer: Obviously the meal at 95 at Parks was part of our review package. All else came from our own pockets. All enjoyed equally. Click here for my full review of the Italian Experience at 95 at Parks.

Lots of gnocchi, meet my fox dog and see the Waterfront sunrise

The irony – in my last post I mentioned Husband was done being Marvin, but he went on to work all weekend and late most of this week – it’s now been 17 days straight! At least we’ve finally reached the weekend, and both have an extra few days off thereafter. Here are a few of our favourite moments from this very busy week…

Friday, 21 July 2017: Celebratory dinner at Moyo

Moyo
We ventured out to Moyo at Eden on the Bay to celebrate the change in Husband’s work shifts. It was too cold to sit outside so we headed indoors, where I had a Madagascan cold coffee drink (served with tot of Amarula). We were also served complimentary sherry and Moroccan breads with spicy dip, very nice!
Moyo lighting
The purple lighting bouncing off the metal tables was pretty.
Our meals: The chicken and date tagine for me, the lamb shank for Husband.

Saturday, 22 July 2017: Early morning doggie moments

Dog in rain
Bassie was happy to spend a few hours sleeping in with me on Saturday morning as it was rainy and we were having a new front door installed.
Cubana eggs benedict
We headed out for a quick breakfast before Husband had to be in the office so ended up at Cubana. That’s me pouring hot milk into my coffee and Husband sipping a flute of orange juice as these come free with certain orders, like their spicy ‘eggs benedict’ – not on English muffin but polenta cakes. It’s a huge portion, we really could have shared! All this for R100, including tip.
Dacschund
Bassie trotted all around her other grandparents’ property that evening when we had the weekly braai.

Sunday, 23 July 2017: Lacomia breakfast and hidden-centre cupcakes

Cafe Lacomia breakfast
When you need to make some Builder’s Warehouse purchases first thing on a Sunday as Husband needs to get back to the office ASAP, you pop in at Cafe Lacomia for your breakfast. That’s Husband’s Cola, my cappuccino and sunnies.
Chocolate surprise cupcakes
We were in for a real treat when we go to Mum’s that evening and bit into these freshly made cupcakes with chocolate-y surprise!

Tuesday, 25 July 2017: Meet my fox dog

Fox dog
Teehee. Couldn’t resist having a photo taken as proof of just how much my boy doggie resembles the clever fox on my jerkin.

Wednesday, 26 July 2017: Cannes Lions Cape Town and Stepbrothers’ team lunch

Waterfront Ster Kinekor
Wednesday was the day of the Cape Town version of our Cannes Lions feedback session. It was held at Ster-Kinekor at the Waterfront first thing – note the pretty sunrise and art on the walls outside the movies theatre.
Cannes Lions in Cape Town.
We manned the registration desk, grabbed a tub of popcorn and sat back to watch the presentations by our roving reporter and SA’s Cape Town-based judges. Click here to read my overview.
Stepbrothers Italian
It was also the day of our next team lunch. We headed out to Stepbrothers near Cape Quarter and had the most amazing Italian meal. That’s my cappuccino and pan of very round gnocchi with pizza strips to mop up that sauce. Trust me, I did!

Thursday, 27 July 2017: Impressive office birthday cakes

Office cake
In addition to being my brother-in-law’s birthday, Thursday was also the birthday of one of the lovely ladies in the office, so she spoiled us with cake. Look at these amazingly delicious ones.
Italian Club Say cheese fair
I had to wolf down that cake fast as next on the agenda was the media launch of the Say Cheese fair, coming to the Italian Club later this year.
Starters at Italian Club
Top left – the cheese samples we started with, bottom left – Arancini di mozzarella in a spicy tomato sauce, top right – a blue-cheese-broccoli soup and bottom right – one of the largest bowls of gnocchi in cheese sauce I’ve seen in my life. Yes I had gnocchi twice in two days.
Food at Italian Club
We ate and we ate, that’s only the half of it. Just look at all that cheesy deliciousness! Seen here: mozarella boccini top left, feta-beetroot-rocket pizza top right, baked Brie topped with bacon and thyme bottom left and haloumi-chickpea-pomegranate avo bottom right. Full description on Biz soon.

That’s all, folks! Time to unplug, unwind and destress.

Winter’s best comfort food: Italian Club gnocchi, News Cafe’s cherry hot chocolate

Fiddlesticks and phew, here we are at the start of a weekend where both of us are going to switch off, not think too deeply and have many happy moments together.

But first a few of our favourite happy moments from the past week…

Friday, 30 June 2017: Day off breakfast and winter gnocchi

Breakfast at La Rocca
We both had Friday off work so once we woke (without an alarm, yay), we headed out to Canal Walk. Breakfast took place at La Rocca. That’s my cappuccino and caramel banana pancakes with Husband’s deboned rib eggs benedict topped with prego sauce.
Italian Club gnocchi
The day was cold so after naps and chores we decided on the Italian Club for dins. Just look at these perfect plates of gnocchi bolognese, drowning in grated parmesan and chilli. Plus Husband’s Stella Artois and my cappuccino.
Dogs at fireplace
Happy doglets in front of the fire a little later that evening.

Saturday, 1 July 2017: Durban July at the in-laws

Our table at Primi for Saturday morning breakfast. Close-ups in next snap…
French toast and cappuccino at Primi
We each started with a cappuccino, then I had the French toast with peanut butter and caramelised banana (mmm), and Husband had the Eggs Florentine with haloumi and many mini tomatoes adding a ruby glow.
Sunset in Cape Town
Sunset at Husband’s parents house that evening where we were having a braai to celebrate the Durban July.
Dog on couch
Bassie took a liking to her grampa’s SA beanie and spent most of the afternoon on, in and under it.
Dog on couch
Bertie was also at his sweetest – this is the face he made when asked if he’s allowed to sit on granny’s new couch.
Lindt Strawberry
Coffee and my Durban July draw ‘second place prize’ Strawberry Lindt (I shared with everyone, promise).

Sunday, 2 July 2017: Rainy Baconville brekkie and News Cafe afternoon

Sleepy dog
My sleepy boys. Best faces. ❀
Baconville breakfast
Sunday morning was rainy and cold and we had a craving for bacon so breakfasted at Baconville in Willowbridge. See my chocolate latte, bacon flapjacks, Husband’s Breakfast Club with an extra egg and his ‘hmm’ face at the ‘I dare you sauce’ – child’s play, he said.
News Cafe hot chocolate
Sunday afternoon felt like an ‘afternoon treat at News Cafe’ time of the week – I tried the cherry hot chocolate while Husband had a dom pedro. Not on the menu but one of the best he’s had, and he’s had a few.
News Cafe cherry hot chocolate.
In addition to sweet-tart cherry flavoured syrup in the hot chocolate, you get a sweet cherry on top.
italian food
More delicious wintery food ensued at Mum’s for lupper that eve – minestrone soup with cheesy breadsticks, spag bol topped with parmesan, malva pudding with custard and stormy skies.

Midweek lonely evenings with dogs

Dogs on couch
Husband was Marvin this week so these are the faces I was rushing home to from work – sometimes with pretty pink streaky clouds when I got there, sometimes with night already setting in.

Thursday, 6 July 2017: Digital influence launch at Grand Daddy Hotel, after-work drinks at Tap Room

Elephant graffiti
Such pretty elephant graffiti just outside the Grand Mac Daddy Hotel on Long Street – my early morning stop before work to cover Popimedia’s digital influence in SA study launch. Coverage on Biz next week.
Grand Mac Daddy Hotel Long Street
Not joking when I say I got there before the sun was up. The lovely view down Long Street, as well as coffee and cold breakfast bits to snack on kept everyone happy.
Seal painting
One of the amazing student artworks in the main hotel area. Such soulful eyes.
Tap Room at Devil's Peak Brewery
My colleague from Joburg was visiting for a few days this week so a few of us went for a chat over liquid refreshments at the Tap Room at Devil’s Peak Brewery after work on Thursday as it’s close to the office. Of course we took photos as proof we were there. These people keep me sane during office hours!
Double-choc shake at Tap Room.
I went for the double choc milkshake – it’s a small as it’s listed under the kiddies’ drinks. The others enjoyed the ginger cider, if you’re in the area.

That’s all, folks! It’s set to be a cold wet weekend in Cape Town – stay warm and dry.

Winter weekend work, Wimpy and walkies

We’re a little low on pics this week alas, as not only was Husband working the weekend shift but I was also glued to my laptop downloading images and compiling tables for the Cannes Lions. I still had a few delicious moments though…

Thursday, 22 June 2017: Bertie beach walk

Dog at the sea
Husband took Bertie for a trot along the seaside on Thursday as he was off that day. Bertie had lots of fun hopping along in the waves and was still a slightly damp dog when I got home that evening.

Saturday, 24 June 2017: Sunrise snaps and Italian treats

Saturday sunrise
Husband snapped this shot of the sunrise sky as he left home for work first thing on Saturday morning.
Wimpy breakfast
Mum was meeting a friend for coffee mid-morning on Saturday so dad treated me to breakfast at Wimpy as I’d only need to work afternoon-onwards. I also had a lovely ripple hot chocolate with Flake on the side.
Italian treats from Forneria Italia
We stopped off at Forneria Italia on the way home for a selection of Italian tea time treats, as my parents would be entertaining the doglets while I got a head start on that evening’s winner lists. We ended up with these delicious lemon ricotta tarts, nutty canneloni and almondy puffs.
Dog pat
Bassie got some affection from grampa while snuggled in a blankie on the couch.
Dog pats
Bertie was quite happy to have his on the floor.

Sunday, 25 June 2017: Post-Cannes relaxing

Bed book and coffee
When Husband left for work on Sunday morning I was happy to snuggle in bed with a book, coffee and the doglets for a few more hours.
Soup and cheese roll
Mum served a delicious soup with cheese rolls later that afternoon.
Homemade chicken curry
For dins, a cashew-nut chicken curry with slices of banana.
Lemon loaf
For dessert, only the freshest lemon loaf!
Dogs on couch
The doggies had lots more affection on Sunday as I was no longer glued to my laptop.

Wednesday, 28 June 2017: Office doughnuts

Doughnuts in the office
Wednesday was our CEO’s birthday, and while that’s usually our ‘non-lunch’ day of the week, he treated us to an assortment of deliciously hot, fresh doughnuts.

Husband’s on night shift again next week so I took today off work so that we can at least spend a weeny bit of time together, hope you have a relaxing weekend!

Stellenbosch conference views & Mother’s Day 2017

Greetings, loyal blog reader! πŸ™‚

Husband worked last weekend so we weren’t out and about quite as much as normal but we still had a few delicious moments, as you’ll see below…

Wednesday, 10 May 2017: Good Food & Wine Show 2017 media launch

Good Food & Wine Show media launch at the Table Bay Hotel.
Loved this selection of pics the Good Food & Wine Show posted on Twitter (those are my pics of the non-Black Insomnia coffee at the start of the first row and the cake slices end of second row, eee). Really a lovely media experience, and you can read my event feedback here for more of what to expect from the show.
Rainbow cake and Black Insomnia coffee.
A handful of the prettiest moments I snapped at the Table Bay Hotel event, all linked to that amazing rainbow cake and world’s strongest Black Insomnia coffee.

Saturday, 13 May 2017: Reload latte and Saint’s burgers

Reload hot dog and latte.
On Saturday Husband left for work then I joined dad for a coffee at the nearest Reload as we were treating mum to a pre-Mother’s Day mani and pedi just down the road. Just look at his lovely mustard-y hot dog and the clever Table Mountain design in my choc-mint latte.
Saints burgers and cocktails
We set off for Saint’s in Eden on the Bay once Husband got home that eve. That’s my Pink Dragon cocktail and Husband’s TNT boozy shake (whisky and salted caramel, so good); as well as his ‘Free Bird’ chicken burger with onion rings and ‘green salad’; my ‘Smoke on the Water’ chorizo-and-pork burger with sweet potato fries and the beginning of the sunset. I still had a bit of work to do that evening so this was a welcome break.
Smile in sunshine at Eden on the Bay
That doesn’t mean we set off straight for home, though. Bellies full and smiles on faces as it was a gorgeous sunny afternoon.

Sunday, 14 May 2017: Mother’s Day breakfast at News Cafe, doggy TLC and beach walks

Mother's Day breakfast at News Cafe
We had Mother’s Day breakfast bright and early on Sunday to beat the crowds at News Cafe (though Husband had already left for work, so it was just the three of us). Then later in the day we took pizzas along for lupper as moms shouldn’t cook on Mother’s Day.
Cape Town beachfront.
Food and coffee down gullets we went for a quick ride along the beachfront before heading home. Love how peaceful it was!
Dog on couch
Bertie was displaying his couch back-sitting skills on Sunday but also spent some quality time with his current bear, Tiger.
Dog couch
Bassie preferred to spend quality time with me as it was Mother’s Day. Aww, bless.
Beach walk.
We went for a quick walk along the beach in Kleinbaai once Husband was done with work for the day.

Monday, 15 May 2017: Office cake and post-work half-price curry

strawberry cake
Mmm. We had cake in the office this week as two birthdays were celebrated. This creamy choc cake with strawberry on top sure chased away the Monday blues!
Chicken curry at Inside
While it doesn’t feel like it’s officially Winter yet in the Cape, winter specials have started popping up on all the menus again. This here is a forkful of the Monday half-price chicken curry special at Eden on the Bay’s Inside – I went for the butter chicken. We’ve been enjoying this special for years (click here for a reminder).

Wednesday 17 and Thursday 18 May 2017: Samra conference at Protea Hotel, Stellenbosch

Stellenbosch tree streets
I was lucky enough to attend the annual two-day Samra (South African Marketing Research Association) conference in Stellenbosch earlier this week. Such a pretty town.
Stellenbosch view
View directly out the window of the Protea Hotel’s conference room – little wonder they drew the curtains during sessions!
Conference food
Conference food is always a treat. Note some of the fresh morning pastries top left, Thursday creme brulee dessert top right, Wednesday brownies dessert bottom left and pretty table settings bottom right.
Coffee in Stellenbosch
My Thursday morning pre-conference cuppa was delightful, especially as I got to gaze at this view.

That’s all, folks. We attended the funeral of Husband’s aunt Sybil earlier today and have his brother Spec staying with us this weekend, so expect a few family-themed pics in the next update. Cheerio!

Family Easter celebrations and first fireplace fire of 2017

Last weekend was a long one as t’was finally Easter weekend, plus Husband was on leave all of this week bar today, so we have a few more pics than usual below…

But first:

Happy sad dogs
Bassie hasn’t been feeling well the past few weeks. She’s finally on the right meds and feeling a bit better – but that’s her standard sad face on the right, with her brother grinning away on the left.

Also, behold:

Easter eggs
Easter time is the time for eggs, and the time for eggs is the Easter time! Teehee. Assorted Easter treats including a handful of second-hand books, an Easter-themed cake and toffee egg with coffee at work.

Friday, 14 April 2017: Good Friday brotherly beers

Early bird breakfast at News Cafe
It seemed Winter had hit when we woke on Good Friday so we dragged out some warm clothes and stopped at News Cafe in Marine Circle for their early bird breakfast. Always a win.
Beach walk
We took the doggies for very brief walkies at their favourite beach for a change of scenery. Bertie and his dad ran off into the waves while Bassie and I took it slow.
Saints shake
We finally got to spend some time with Husband’s brother Spec later that day, newly relocated to Cape Town. Note their matching haircuts (given at same barber shop). We had a liquid break at Saint’s in Eden on the Bay – that’s my banoffee shake while they perused the craft beer menu.
Table Mountain National Geographic frame at Eden on the Bay
Of course we took the ‘sitting on Table Mountain frame’ photo on our way back home.
Hot-cross buns
T’was quite chilly that evening. Here you can see me having a quick coffee at Husband’s parents’ house when we dropped off Spec, as well as my hot-cross-bun muffin and coffee at home, and little miss Bassie huddled in front of the fire Husband lit that evening.

Saturday, 15 April 2017: Pre-Easter braai

Breakfast at Cup & Cake
We breakfasted at Cup & Cake in Eden on the Bay on Saturday morning. That’s my slice of custard cake and cappuccino, and the avo-cream cheese-eggy toast Husband ended up with, pre- and post-Tabasco saucing.
Braai in Cape Town
I now present to you the first official braai at the Andrews seniors’ last Saturday.
Dogs in garden
Little Bassie and Bertie had fun trotting around their Granny’s garden, stopping for lots of attention and treats along the way.
Easter braai
It was quite the feast, once all the foodies were ready.
Braai pudding
Main meal eaten, it was time to try the ‘braai pudding’ – brownie topped with caramel and marshmallows that gets heated on the braai. Plus coffee, of course. Bassie was very interested.
Sunset in the suburbs
It was a lovely sunset once we got home that evening.

Sunday, 16 April 2017: Easter beach walk(s)

I Love Melkies breakfast
By Saturday morning the weather had cleared into summer sunshine again, so we ventured out to Melkbos for brekkie – I Love Melkies had just been renovated and looked most appealing, so that’s where we sat. See Husband with his cola and eggs on bacon-hash, with my cappuccino and bacon-marscapone-strawberry single waffle.
Beach jump at Melkbos
As you can see from my beach jump pics, this is what we did after we’d eaten.
Husband on the rocks
Do you see that little speck of a husband in the distance? He really loves the sea, that one.
Flamingoes at Woodbridge Island
That afternoon we did the Woodbridge Island-Lagoon Beach round trip walk. There were lots of flamingoes in the water.
Cocktails and chilli poppers at Woodbridge Island's Beach Tavern
Post-walkies we stopped in at The Beach Tavern in Woodbridge. We sampled a bacon-wrapped chilli popper and fancy milkshake each. I went for the strawberry cheesecake, Husband had the alcoholic apple version. Jeepers they tasted as ‘colourful’ as they looked!

Monday, 17 April 2017: Family day with our little family

Breakfast at Lacomias
The weather was still lovely so we ate outside at Lacomia’s on Monday morning. That’s my cappuccino, Husband’s salmon-cream cheese omelette and my toasted cheese and tomato.
Koi at GrandWest Casino
Monday was a lazy day with the doggies and finally going to watch Beauty and the Beast at the cinema. We always walk around the perimeter greeting the Koi before going into GrandWest Casino.
GrandWest Casino movies
We stopped at the ‘pose and press’ photo booth in The District before the movie, as you do. These are our happy faces.
Hussar Grill in GrandWest Casino
We were quite hungry after watching Beauty and the Beast so popped into the practically empty Hussar Grill. I’d been drooling over the thought of their chocolate-chilli chicken on mash for months, and Husband tried his first carpetbagger steak stuffed with oysters and topped with a brandy sauce. All in all, most delicious!
Sunset at GrandWest Casino.
T’was sunset when we left. What a wonderful long weekend.

Thursday, 20 April 2017: Male family golf morning

Golf at Burgundy Estate
The men-folk played golf at Burgundy Estate on Thursday morning (victors in order from left to right), the women-folk went for tea and I went to work. Sob.

That’s all, folks! Hope you had a happy Easter break and that you’re looking forward to the week ahead. πŸ™‚
